Japan Used Motor Vehicle Exporters Association (JUMVEA).

This organization was formed on June 1, 1997 with the approval of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), presently the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). 60 members joined at the beginning but every year the number of the members is steady increased so that at the end of August 2008 the members are now exceeding 200.

The office of JUMVEA is located in Tokyo but members are covering almost all area in Japan. As JUMVEA we also cover most of the countries in the world for the exportation of the used motor vehicles.

Purpose of JUMVEA

Our organization began on September 14, 1995 as the Japan Used Motor Vehicle Exporters Alliance. On June 1, 1997, with the approval of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, our organization was incorporated as ‘Japan Used Motor Vehicle Exporters Association’. The purpose of our Association is, with the cooperation of our members, to exchange information, establish order of fair trade in the used motor vehicle industry, and endeavor forward the sound development of the used motor export business – while also conducting joint-business activities required by members, promoting economic activities for members, and improving their social and economic standing.

The drastically eased regulations regarding the export and the influence of the simplification of business caused that it had become possible for anyone to easily engage the export business, and the sharp increase in the numbers of the exporters of used motor vehicles. As a result there appeared more stringent competition and a rapid increase in illegal exports, including the export of stolen vehicles and illegally rebuilt or remodeled vehicles.

More Information

Preventing such illegal conduct and unfair export has become an urgent task for the used motor vehicle export industry. Meanwhile, the demand for used motor vehicles was expected to further increase in countries around the world where, an economic foundation is in the process of being established, because of the excellent quality and fair prices of Japanese used motor vehicles. Amid such circumstances, the Cooperative Business Association was established as an organization to better cope with the coming age.

Developing more profitable markets, ensuring the availability of products for export, and rationalizing shipping, with Government assistance it is the aim of this Association to establish a sound international market for used motor vehicle industry by strengthening cooperative relations with the Governments of nations (and related organizations) around the world which import used motor vehicles, establishing order in the used motor vehicle export industry, and endeavoring to develop that business.

• Through cooperation among members, this Association aims to prevent such unfair transactions as those involving stolen vehicles and illegally rebuilt or remodeled vehicles, establish order in the export of used motor vehicles, and ensure the sound development of the used motor vehicle export business.
• Through mutual cooperation among members, it is the purpose of this Association to contribute to the mutual development of member’s business and the sound distribution of used motor vehicles, promoting close exchange of information, developing more profitable markets, ensuring the availability of products for export and promoting the rationalization of shipping.
