Foundation  of   today’s Toyota  was laid  way back  in 1924 when Sakichi Toyoda established a Toyoda Model G Automatic Loom. The production of Toyota automobiles was started in 1933 as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, devoted to the production of automobiles under the direction of the founder’s son, Kiichiro Toyoda. Its first vehicles were the A1 passenger car and the G1 in 1935. In April 1936, Toyoda’s first passenger car, the Model AA, was completed. The word “Toyopet (Japanese article)” was a nickname given to the Toyota SA due to its small size, as the result of a naming contest the Toyota Company organized in 1947. Toyota eventually entered the American market in 1957 with the Crown, the name was not well received due to connotations of toys and pets. The name was soon dropped for the American market, but continued in other markets until the mid-1960s.
