Association, “Japanese Railway Engineering Association (JREA)” was established in February of 1947 (Allow Association August 2006) and the Directorate General of Railway Transport of the time (after the current JNR JR Group) proposed by technology leaders, called on the national railway engineers and industry, including private railways Kokutetsu, which was inspired by Hakarou morale and solidarity with both.

7. Conduct other activities deemed necessary for achieving the purpose of JREA

Japan Overseas Rolling Stock Association (JORSA):

The Japan Overseas Rolling Stock Association (JORSA) was established in 1953 as a special authorized corporation under the Export and Import Transaction Law of Japan and with the approval of Japan Minister of International Trade and Industry. JORSA is an umbrella organization of 31 Japanese leading trading companies and manufacturers of rolling stock and parts. JORSA shall carry out its business to come together for mutual interests of members with the aim of encouraging sound development of trade transaction of rolling stock.

Railways have competed and cooperated with other means of transportation including automobiles, aircraft and ships, as an important part of the social infrastructure. There has been growing demand for railway transport systems due to their superior economic efficiency, as well as demand for their ability to reduce environmental impact, protect the environment, and promote energy-saving efforts, on a global scale.

Particularly, Japan has developed superior technologies in the area of inter-city high-speed railways and urban railways, and put those to practical use. JORSA assists in spreading such railway technologies in Japan to overseas countries and thereby facilitates social development in many countries. JORSA also strives to help support and contribute to environmental improvements, and settle related problems-in those countries.

The Japanese Railway Society (JRS):

The Japanese Railway Society (JRS) was founded in 1991 in London, England, to promote the knowledge of the railways of Japan in England and other non-Japanese-speaking parts of the world. Since 1991, there have been several activities like exhibitions (also of railway models), a TV-show (on Naruhodo The World, Fuji TV), many meetings in England, Germany and the Netherlands, and seven guided tours to Japan (in 1994, in March/April 1996, in October 1997 , in April 1998, in April 2000, in August 2001 and in March/April 2003. The membership is now more than 300 persons in about 10 countries worldwide.

The Japan Association of Rolling Stock Industries (JARI):

The Japan Association of Rolling Stock Industries (JARI) is a nonprofit organization, representing the interests of 41 members′companies which are composed of three sectors; the first one is to manufacture car body and to build rolling stock, the second is to manufacture electric equipments and/or provide its systems installed in rolling stock, and the third is to supply mechanical components and parts used for rolling stock. In addition, JARI has 59 companies as the associate members, which are material suppliers, maintenance companies, consultants and other small sized companies related to rolling stock business, including the companies held by overseas firms, and also, has 32 railway operation companies as the designated members, comprising JR companies, private and local government owned companies.
