Ford Edge vs Ford Escape

These two models (Ford Edge vs Ford Escape) are the strong, robust sellers for the blue oval. The escape and edge often make up a great volume in terms of the dealership. However, during this model year, the escape has lost some of its squared-off charms in favor of more bodywork. After some boatload of changes last year, Edge soldiers on with no such major differences though however changes in terms of color palette and option packages.

Both are two-row, five-passenger vehicles and offer a wide choice of powertrains and optional all-wheel drive. Now let have a discussion in detail to find out which one is best suitable.

Powertrains Options in Ford Edge vs Ford Escape

Ford Escape

There is no undershoot of powertrain options in the freshly hewn escape. It has 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder making 180 hp moreover available with front or all-wheel drive. A boosted 2.0-liter mill makes a healthy 250 ponies and sends power to all four wheels.

Hybrid models use a 2.5-liter inline-four and it pairs with electric propulsion which makes about 200 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid model makes more juice and this is all due to the robust pack of electrons.

In the Escape, Ford’s 250 hp turbo-four is a great choice but it has extra weight. If it goes in the budget, hit for the ST.

Ford Edge

All Edge models except the sporty ST and are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-banger which makes 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.

On all the non-STs the front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel-drive showing up as an option. The ST Zooty comes with all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

It earns a 2.7 liter turbocharged V6, good for 335 ponies and 380 units of twist. Every edge has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Ford Edge vs Ford Escape: Fuel Economy

Ford Escape

It has front-wheel drive 1.5-liter powertrain which is estimated to get 33 mpg in highway driving. It also has 27 mpg while on a city cycle drive. Combining, that should make for 30 mpg. By adding all-wheel drive wills likely ding numbers by about 1 mpg. The versions in terms of hybrid will likely post numbers into the ’30s.

Ford Edge

Ford reckons front-wheel-drive versions. This vehicle should return 21 mpg around town and 29 mpg on the highway. Adding all wheels drops each of these numbers by a single mpg. It is worth noting that the numbers in terms of power listed at the beginning of the post are acquired with expensive 93 octane fuel. The edge versions have a larger fuel tank nonetheless the presence of powertrain gear.

Considering the above points, small footprints make escape the fuel economy a winner.

Style of both cars

Ford Escape

The Escape has an inclination towards the softer side of crossover and SUV. It does not look alike the original escapes with their boxy and rigged profiles.

Ford Edge

Throughout its tenure, it always ends up looking like a rounded off dinner roll. The model for the year 2020 is no more different. The edge is persistently trying to look best among the segments.

Ford Edge has an advantage here, it has a too-soft restyle of Escape that will appeal to some but not all buyers.
