Identifying Flood Damaged Cars

Read this article carefully and learn how to identifying flood damaged cars. Flooding can be a result of various phenomena and it can have a long-lasting effect. Everything from thick to thin gets vandalized. If we specifically talk about vehicles, they are more prone to vandalization. This affects their value as well, even if there is small damage to the car.

In case of such a disaster, vehicles play a very important role at the time of recovery. And thus transportation plays a huge role. At the time of such mishappenings, one can easily identify flood-damaged cars.

There are some ways by which it becomes easy to identify flood-damaged cars

Check for foggy windows

Cars are designed in such a way that they are watertight in normal conditions. If we put an umbrella on a daily basis during rain, we need a higher amount of water to make the car windows fog up. This we can usually experience in older cars due to blockage in the inbuilt drainage system. There is fog in a car only when there is a considerable amount of moisture or water content inside the vehicle.

The Sniff Test

The best way to sniff out when the car is damaged by flood is to sniff it. It is a difficult task to get rid out of moldy smell and mildew. If it really exists, it is a clean chit sign of flood and water damage. If it is not a damage, then it can be a sign of leaking water from the firewalls or the doors. There are very few people who are able to cover the smell using air fresheners. But at the same time, they are also hiding the odor of flood-damaged cars.

Feel around for moisture

It is vital to check every corner of the used car before buying it. We should lift the mats out and check the moist carpets, especially around the seat rails. Also, inspect the firewall insulation. Always try to physically remove the carpet when putting to dry once It comes out of a high degree of water. The dealers tend to miss out minute details when putting a car back together.

Check the boot

Always open the boot and feel around the carpet there. Today, modern cars have side slots for the purpose of storage. So you should for any nod of water damage or residue. The boot must be dry for an undamaged car. Check the jack as well as the jack handle for a sign of premature rusting. This is the place where tends to collect. Sellers and dealers often forget when fixing a flood-damaged car.

Check the oil

The car engine faces water penetration and thus it is easy to identify by checking the oil quality. Always check the oil level and the way oil looks for the purpose of checking car damage due to flood. If the color of the oil is pale and not regular ark shade it is a clear sign of damage to the car. The oil is sticky and feels sticky to touch and not feel smooth at all.
