Lock Nut: What is It and Why is It Used?
Lock Nut: What is It and Why is It Used?

Lock Nut: Earlier was a time when it is so rare to see cars resting on bricks? Some of them were the old cars that the owner used to strip the parts for reuse or resale. Most of them are missing the rims and tires because they were stolen.

The cars are sitting on bricks not because thieves are kind enough to leave them. The bad boys left the car on bricks so that they can remove the car jack so that they can rob another car.

Even the factory car alarms can effectively stop this theft. Most factory cars do not come with shock sensors. Thus there is a probability thieves can still remove the rims and tires without triggering the alarm. Moreover, people are not crazy about car alarms with shock sensors. The reason is the alarms tend to go off all the time.

Lock Nuts Enter the Fray

The thieves of wheel meet their match with the advent of lock nuts. These nuts are called lock nuts as these are the nuts for car wheels they need a key to open. Lock and key? The working of a lucky nut is similar to regular wheel nuts except you require a key between the nut and the spanner.

Even in the past sports cars come with locknuts. When the car rims and expensive tires such as run-flat become popular, lock nuts also became popular. Now they can be found in many cars. When luxury cars and sports cars come with locknuts. Wheel thieves have to set their sight lower to not so expensive cars. This makes sense for the cars to start using lock nuts too.

Removal of Lock Nuts without Key

It is easy to remove lock nuts without the key. However, it is still not easy to remove lock nuts as it appears on YouTube. The wise man likes to make us think that removing a lock nut is as simple as finding a socket. Such socket is one size smaller and hammering the socket over the lock nut before removing the socket with the help of lock nut.

Many lock nuts come with special shapes, grooves, and materials to prevent clumsy removal techniques. So, the way to remove the lock nuts without a key is drilling. It takes an infinite amount of time for all four wheels

Not that you are aware wheel lock nuts can be removed if the key is lost. There should not be a reason to invest in a set. If you shop for a new car, check if the car wheels come with locknuts. It is a nod of all-around quality.
